A LONG-DISTANCE ROMANCE

Twenty-one-year-old Karl Denton was on holiday in Los Angeles when he first saw Susie Fraser. Susie worked in the hotel bar, so they often chatted. After just two weeks, they fell in love! At the end of the holiday Karl gave Susie his e-mail address so they could write to each other. In fact Kart worked for a travel agency, so he promised to visit Susie three months later.

One month and many emails later, Karl decided he couldn't wait. He chose an engagement ring and bought a ticket to LA, but he didn't tell Susie. Why? Because he wanted to surprise her !

After a twelve-hour flight, a tired Karl arrived in LA and took a taxi to Susi's apartment. But Susie wasn't there. She was on a plane to London ! 'At first I thought it was a joke', said Karl. 'Then her flatmate showed me her empty room- I couldn't believe it !' .

At the same time Susie arrived at Karl's parents' house in London. 'When they said he was in LA, I laughed, then I started to cry,' said susie. 'We're both romantic and quite impulsive. We just wanted to surprise each other.'

Unfortunately, Karl couldn't change his ticket, so he stayed in LA for a week. In London, Karl's parents took Susie round famous places and monuments.

Finally, Karl asked Susie to marry him on the phone. 'I was delighted,' said Susie. 'And of course I accepted. We're going to get married in England. I'm going to fly to London in June - but this time it's a one-way ticket !'
